Annual Homeschool Assessments

Summit Scholastics also offers individual annual homeschool assessments with the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test (WIAT-III). The WIAT-III is a thorough academic assessment and includes normed test scores for grades pre-K-12. Academic areas assessed by the WIAT-III are:

  • Listening Comprehension
  • Oral Expression
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Written Expression
  • Oral Reading
  • Spelling
  • Mathematical Problem Solving
  • Numerical Operations
  • Mathematical Fluency

The WIAT-III is a Buros-approved test that meets all annual testing or assessment requirements for Washington State Home-based Instruction under Washington State law RCW28A.200.010 (1c). In addition, the WIAT-III provides an actual working grade and age level in all subtest areas as the test includes material from multiple grade levels and can be adjusted up or down depending on student responses. This feature of the WIAT-III is distinctly different from a traditional standardized test, such as the Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) or the California Achievement Test (CAT), which only tests the material from one specific grade level.

A Summit Scholastics assessment with the WIAT-III is an exceptional choice for homeschool families who desire:

  • Comprehensive academic information from their annual assessment
  • An individual, untimed environment for yearly testing
  • Screening for suspected learning differences, difficulties, giftedness, or twice exceptionality
  • Customized learning suggestions or direction for homeschool subjects and materials

Homeschool assessments with the WIAT-III typically take between 1.5-2.5 hours to complete, depending on the age and pace of the child. A full computerized report is made available to the family within 1-2 weeks, and an additional 30-minute parent conference to discuss results is included as part of the assessment package.
